Senate Bill 596 aims to expand the state’s energy infrastructure to keep ahead of growing electric, hydrogen and natural gas powered vehicle purchases in the state. A bipartisan bill aimed at spurring transportation infrastructure to clean energy passed a state Senate vote last week in a 43-6 vote. Senate Bill 596 introduced by Sen. Bob Mensch, R-24, of Marlborough, would establish a “framework” of fueling options for electric, hydrogen- and natural gas-powered vehicles.

Utility Dive: Nevada Governor Orders Plans for Economy-Wide Carbon Reductions

Utility Dive covered Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak's signed executive order requiring state agencies to enact plans to limit greenhouse gas emissions across the state and included reaction by AEE's Sarah Steinberg. Sisolak has a growing record on climate-related issues; he was elected last year after supporting a 100% clean energy mandate for Nevada, and in March, the state officially joined the U.S. Climate Alliance, a group of 25 states that plan to reduce emissions 28% below 2005 levels by 2025. In April, the state passed a bill adopting a 50% renewable electricity target for 2030 and a 100% carbon-free electricity target for 2050.

Governor signs directive to align state agencies in pursuit of commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand advanced energy

CARSON CITY, NV, November 22, 2019 — Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) applauded Governor Steve Sisolak for signing Executive Order 2019-22. The executive order directs state agencies to develop a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the highest emitting sectors. It also seeks to better align existing agency efforts under the state’s clean energy and climate commitments, including newly increased renewable energy requirements and efforts to bolster in-state energy production and advanced energy deployment.

AEE Applauds Pennsylvania Senate for Passage of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Bill

SB 596 encourages deployment of electric vehicles, sets up processes for charging infrastructure development and utility EV programs.

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 19, 2019 – Today, national business organization Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) applauded the state Senate for passing SB 596*, the Pennsylvania Clean Transportation Infrastructure Act. The vote was 43-6. The bipartisan bill sets a 2030 goal for electric vehicle (EV) deployment in the state that is at least 50% higher than current market forecasts, establishes a system for determining the charging infrastructure required to support those goals, and lays out a process for utility EV programs to be evaluated by the Public Utility Commission. Today, Pennsylvania is the seventh largest vehicle market in the nation**.

Electricity consumers in Texas could save nearly $5.5 billion over the next decade if Texas regulators and utilities did a better job integrating distributed energy resources such as backup generators, rooftop solar and batteries to reduce the need for building expensive peak power generation and transmission projects, according to a new study.

The Austin trade group Texas Advanced Energy Business Alliance estimated Texas households could save an average of $456 over a decade if Texas did more to integrate backyard solar panels and quick-start natural gas micro turbines into transmission and distribution planning and allowing small-scale generators to participate in wholesale markets.
