Bucks County Courier Times: Mensch Energy Infrastructure Bill goes to House

Senate Bill 596 aims to expand the state’s energy infrastructure to keep ahead of growing electric, hydrogen and natural gas powered vehicle purchases in the state. A bipartisan bill aimed at spurring transportation infrastructure to clean energy passed a state Senate vote last week in a 43-6 vote. Senate Bill 596 introduced by Sen. Bob Mensch, R-24, of Marlborough, would establish a “framework” of fueling options for electric, hydrogen- and natural gas-powered vehicles.

“Every year, we see new electric and naturally-powered vehicles introduced in the market, and these cars, trucks and buses are rapidly becoming more affordable and well-suited to our lifestyles,” Mensch’s bill sponsorship memo states.

A news release from Advanced Energy Economy added the bill sets a 2030 goal for electric vehicle deployment that is nearly 50% higher than current economic forecasts. The industry group focused on fossil fuel alternatives added SB 596 “lays out a process for utility (electric vehicle) programs to be evaluated by the Public Utility Commission...”
