Posted by Dana Gentry on Dec 19, 2023

The Nevada Current reports on NV Energy's request for a fifth amendment to its Integrated Resource Plan, quoting United's Brian Turner on the importance of competitive procurement and commission oversight.

NV Energy is failing to get the best deals for its customers, resulting in higher than necessary rates, according to experts who say compared with other electric utilities in the west, the company is lagging in leveraging the lowest-cost, and most environmentally friendly options.

Regional wholesale electric market could accelerate clean energy goals and lower costs for consumers, new Colorado PUC report finds

A western RTO would increase competition and lower energy costs for Coloradans

DENVER, CO, December 1, 2021 — Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) commended the members of Colorado’s Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for acknowledging the consumer, environmental, and economic benefits of a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO). A new report by Colorado’s PUC found that electric utility participation in a regional wholesale market could reduce electricity costs for consumers by up to 5% annually while accelerating the state’s clean energy goals.

“Coloradans deserve the energy security and economic benefits that a Western RTO will provide, and going it alone is not an option we can stake Colorado’s energy future on,” said Emilie Olson, Principal at AEE. “This report shows that good regional planning and coordination with our neighbors is the answer to developing a clean energy system that lowers energy costs for households and businesses.

Advanced energy business group urges ACC to finalize proposed energy rules to provide regulatory certainty to continue growth

PHOENIX, August 17, 2021 — A new analysis commissioned by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), while acknowledging that it is unable to project long-term costs to consumers, finds that transitioning to clean and advanced energy options is “reliable and cost-effective” in the near-term.

“The report shows that clean and advanced energy solutions in Arizona can be both reliable and cost-effective with today’s technology,” said Shelby Stults, a principal at Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), a national business group representing companies working to make the energy we use secure, clean, and affordable. “Arizona is full of potential when it comes to providing solar power, energy storage, and other advanced energy technologies. Businesses across the country are looking to Arizona’s utility commissioners to provide the regulatory certainty they need to invest in the state.”
