Advanced Energy United Congratulates Willie Phillips on Appointment to Acting Chair of FERC

Posted by Adam Winer on Jan 3, 2023

Urges expedient nomination of a fifth Commissioner to restore a full complement to FERC

WASHINGTON, January 3, 2023 – Today, national business group Advanced Energy United thanked outgoing Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chair Richard Glick for his productive and impactful tenure, congratulated Commissioner Willie Phillips on his appointment as Acting Chair of the Commission, and urged expedient nomination of a fifth Commissioner to restore a full complement to FERC.

Caitlin Marquis, Managing Director at Advanced Energy United, released the following statement:

“Acting Chair Phillips takes on leadership of the Commission at a critical time, as FERC works toward reforms aimed at improving and expanding the power grid, connecting new utility-scale clean energy projects to the grid, and making it easier for distributed energy resources like rooftop solar and storage to participate and compete in wholesale markets. His broad experience in the industry and his prior leadership of the District of Columbia Public Service Commission have made him a strong asset during his tenure as a Commissioner. Advanced Energy United looks forward to continuing to work with Acting Chair Phillips and with Commissioners Clements, Christie, and Danly as the Commission continues work on existing priorities and takes on new issues critical to the energy transition.

“Advanced Energy United also thanks outgoing Chair Glick for his historic leadership overseeing reforms on a sweeping set of issues facing the power grid, including transmission planning, interconnection reform, accommodating state policies, grid reliability, and preparing for the nation’s energy transition. While much work remains on many of these issues, Chair Glick’s ambitious agenda has positioned the current FERC to have a productive year ahead. As FERC finalizes important rules on these issues and takes up additional priorities, Advanced Energy United asks that the Biden Administration quickly nominate a new commissioner eager to tackle the challenges and opportunities facing the electricity system, ensuring that FERC is wholly staffed and equipped to take on critical energy sector issues.”
