Advanced Energy United response to the State of the Union Address

Posted by Adam Winer on Mar 8, 2024

National business association Advanced Energy United calls on Congress and the States to build on momentum towards a 100 percent clean energy future

WASHINGTON, DC – Advanced Energy United released the following statement from its President and CEO Heather O’Neill after President Biden delivered the annual State of the Union address:

“We must harness the incredible power of advanced energy technologies to reduce harmful emissions while also lowering energy costs, creating economic opportunity for Americans in all states, and building an energy system we can rely on. As witnessed in recent events across the country, our aging, fossil-fueled electricity system is leaving households and businesses vulnerable to outages. We can fix this by updating our energy infrastructure and doubling down on clean energy and storage investments. The longer we wait, the harder and more expensive this work becomes, jeopardizing more lives and the economic well-being of local businesses and economies.

Under Biden’s leadership, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (IIJA), and the CHIPS and Science Act, which combined are leading to $650 billion in private-sector investments in advanced manufacturing and clean energy, and the creation of tens of thousands of jobs in those industries. But the work isn’t done. Congress needs to pass sensible and responsible permitting reform legislation that makes it easier for us to build a stronger interstate transmission grid, bolster the supply chain for domestic advanced energy manufacturing, and continue the growth of a circular clean energy economy.

States must also build on this momentum. We have the technology to meet our 100 percent clean energy goals while ensuring we have an affordable and reliable grid. This opportunity and urgency must be met with state policies that meet the moment, harnessing unprecedented resources unleashed by the IRA and IIJA. States must remove barriers to building large-scale clean energy projects, make it easier and more affordable for households and businesses to go electric, and ensure utilities are serving customer needs by leveraging all the kinds of advanced energy technologies and services available to get to 100 percent clean electricity as quickly as possible.”

AEE statement on Commerce’s initial solar tariff decision

Posted by Cayli Baker on Dec 2, 2022

The Department found imports of certain solar panel components circumvented existing U.S. tariffs on China.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 2, 2022 – Today, national business association Advanced Energy Economy reacted to the Department of Commerce’s preliminary determination that Chinese solar companies were circumventing U.S. trade restrictions. The investigation found that a number of Chinese solar companies were dodging existing tariffs by routing products through Southeast Asian nations. President Biden previously extended a 24-month pause on new solar tariffs, which is expected to forestall the immediate impacts of this determination on the solar industry.

AEE Applauds Inflation-Fighting Agreement Made By Senate Leaders

Posted by Adam Winer on Jul 27, 2022

Clean energy investments will reduce electricity costs and create good jobs in America

WASHINGTON, DC, July 27, 2022 – Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), a national trade association of clean energy buyers and businesses, celebrated the federal budget agreement announced today by Senate leaders Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin, and released the following statement on behalf of its CEO, Nat Kreamer:

“At a time of acute inflation, this agreement represents a truly historic step towards lowering the energy bills of Americans and creating real energy independence. It is likewise a smart investment in our domestic advanced energy industry, creating tens of thousands of good jobs. We applaud Senator Schumer, Senator Manchin, and all of those involved in bringing this agreement to fruition. We look forward to reviewing the details of the bill and urge Congress to move swiftly towards passage.”

AEE Calls on Congress To Work Through Differences and Pass a Reconciliation Package That Uses Clean Energy to Reduce Inflation

Posted by Adam Winer on Jul 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, July 15, 2022 – National business association Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) President Heather O’Neill issued the following statement today about Senate budget reconciliation negotiations:

“Americans are facing historic levels of inflation, driven in large part by global fossil fuel prices. The tax credits in this package would deliver much needed relief, helping to cut energy prices and reduce U.S. dependence on price-volatile fossil fuels, by spurring the domestic manufacturing and deployment of clean, affordable, and reliable advanced energy technologies. Failing to use this opportunity to boost the domestic advanced energy manufacturing industry would mean American workers get less benefit from the world’s transition to clean energy, and would all but assure that our economic competitors, particularly China, reap the economic rewards instead. We call on Congress to enact them as soon as possible.

AEE Supports Use of Defense Production Act, Calls for Full Funding & Implementation

Posted by Adam Winer on Jun 29, 2022

Letter also lauds two-year bridge for solar imports, calls for swift end to Auxin investigation

WASHINGTON, June 29, 2022 – Today, national business association Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) sent a letter to the Department of Commerce, Department of Energy, the White House, and leaders on Capitol Hill strongly defending President Biden’s use of the Defense Production Act (DPA) to expand domestic production of “five critical clean energy technologies,” including solar, heat pumps, power grid infrastructure, building insulation, and equipment for making and using clean electricity-generated fuels.

As the letter details, this action is vital to address the immediate issues of rising energy prices, U.S. and European exposure to Russian oil and gas, and America’s security interests. AEE called upon the Administration and Congress to significantly increase resources in the DPA Fund to meet this moment. In addition, Congress should harness reconciliation to pass a robust package of energy and manufacturing incentives, akin to those in Build Back Better, to build on the progress the DPA should initiate. AEE Managing Director Harrison Godfrey provided the following statement about the letter and its message to the Administration:

AEE applauds Biden administration actions to pause solar tariffs and grow advanced energy domestic manufacturing

Posted by Adam Winer on Jun 6, 2022

WASHINGTON, June 6, 2022 – Today national business association Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) celebrated the announcement from the Biden Administration that it will expand use of the Defense Production Act to include solar panels and component parts, as well as building insulation, heat pumps, electrolyzers, platinum group metals, fuel cells, and transformers. The White House also announced a pause on solar trade tariffs to allow clean energy projects across the country to be built while the country scales up domestic manufacturing of supply chain components.

“This is a needed stay in a more than decade-long tariff war that has been a loser for all parties,” said AEE CEO Nat Kreamer. “Tariffs only raise costs for consumers and don’t create domestic demand for clean energy. These announcements today provide much-needed stability to the solar industry and the clean energy transition at large, and send the message to Congress that now is the time to act urgently to build the clean energy domestic manufacturing industry this country needs to protect consumers and become energy independent.
