Expanding domestic production of critical minerals is good for U.S. economy and national security

WASHINGTON, Thursday, March 31 – Today, President Biden announced plans to invoke the Defense Production Act as a means of increasing domestic production and mining of critical minerals needed to manufacture batteries for electric vehicles and long-term energy storage.

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) Managing Director Harry Godfrey, who leads the Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Infrastructure Working Group for AEE, released the following statement:

“We applaud the Biden Administration for invoking the Defense Production Act to expand domestic production of energy storage technology and access to the critical minerals that are essential to storage. Energy storage, both stationary and in electric vehicles, is essential to swiftly reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, building a clean, affordable economy, and securing America.

AEE’s statement on White House remarks on electrifying heavy-duty vehicles

White House clean transit actions will drive jobs to America’s electrified transportation sector and pave a faster route to meeting EV adoption.

Washington, D.C., March 7, 2022 — Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) praised Vice President Kamala Harris’ remarks announcing federal action to accelerate clean transit and heavy-duty electric vehicle adoption. The announcement comes after the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed “Clean Trucks Rule,” which outlines standards for heavy-duty vehicle emissions that would reduce truck pollutants 90% below current EPA standards for model year 2031 vehicles, the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which included $5 billion in electric school bus funds, and the White House’s goal late last year to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030. These vehicles, which include school buses, trucks, and government fleets, account for nearly a quarter of the country’s transportation emissions.

Indiana AEE celebrates passage of electric vehicle charging bill

House Bill 1221 will support the build-out of electric vehicle public charging stations 

INDIANAPOLIS, March 3, 2022 – Indiana Advanced Energy Economy (Indiana AEE) celebrates the legislative passage of House Bill 1221, which will support the build-out of electric vehicle public charging infrastructure. The concurrence vote (66-25 in favor) taken this week in the House of Representatives sends the final bill to Governor Holcomb’s desk for his signature. The bill follows on the heels of Gov. Holcomb joining with other Midwest Governors in signing the Regional Electric Vehicle for the Midwest Memorandum of Understanding last fall to advance electric vehicles in the region.

AEE CEO’s statement ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 1, 2022 – Today, ahead of the State of the Union address, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) urged President Joe Biden to look toward advanced energy for the sake of national security and to better protect Americans from future spikes in the prices of fossil fuels. 

AEE CEO Nat Kreamer, who is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan where he served in the Special Forces and was awarded the Bronze Star, released the following statement:  

“I returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2006 determined to help the United States free itself from fossil fuels. Now, with Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, we have even more reason to accelerate our country’s transition to clean energy.
