SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: AEE ASKS "CAN WE HAVE AN INTEGRATED ENERGY VISION?"

The San Jose Mercury News blog Silicon Beat featured AEE's new report, Advanced Energy in California, citing the state's RPS goals and rooftop solar as well as adoption of electric vehicles. But, as the report points out, the alphabet soup of California's competing agencies, "from the CPUC to the CEC to the CALISO," can be inefficient for private sector energy companies. Silicon Beat notes an example from the report:

One example: clean energy procurement issues are handled by the CPUC, but grid reliability and operations are handled by the CAISO. As more renewables come onto the grid, those efforts need to be better coordinated. Coordinating advanced energy technologies with legacy energies is difficult. Silicon Beat quotes Arno Harris, CEO of Recurrent Energy:

"The challenge we face is now is we are trying to make the leap to the energy system of the future with the regulatory system of the past 50 years."
