Ecotality, an AEE member company and California-based electric vehicle (EV) charging startup, has begun to install EV chargers at workplaces. EV drivers use workplace EV charging as much as 300 percent more than typical public chargers attached to municipal buildings or public parking lots. Installation of workplace chargers is especially important as EV adoption is on the rise. The LA Times reports: "In a recent survey, Ecotality found its workplace chargers showed a dramatic increase in usage over the first half of 2013, up about 61%."

Advanced Energy Economy recognized a number of cities this week that have executed programs to optimize energy efficiency, and CEO Graham Richards stated that high speed broadband is the key to optimizing energy usage. AEE’s release includes the following:“Chattanooga created a “smart grid” system utilizing an ultra-high-speed gigabit-per-second broadband network consisting of thousands of smart switches and meters. Among many other functions, the network allows them to reroute power almost instantaneously when power lines go down.”

According to the study, the energy efficiency requirement in the law has saved consumers more than any potential higher cost due to the renewable energy provisions.
