The updated framework resolves the uncertainty caused by recent litigation over property tax assessments which threatened to increase prices
ALBANY, NY –
Gov. Kathy Hochul today signed into law legislation repealing New York’s “100-foot rule,” a long-standing requirement that had forced existing utility customers to pay $200 million a year to subsidize pipelines that do not serve them. This practice increased gas bills, crowded out cleaner, more cost-effective options, and increased the risk of future stranded assets.
“The administration's action today removes a hidden cost from utility bills and brings greater transparency to energy planning. By ending this
costly subsidy, this law will help protect New Yorkers and clear the way for more efficient heating alternatives,” said
Kristina Persaud, New York Policy Lead at Advanced Energy United

SPEED Act can be important building block in a more comprehensive legislative package
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development Act, (SPEED Act, H.R. 4776), legislation aimed at reforming significant, longstanding hurdles to building energy infrastructure in America. Advanced Energy United, the national business association representing many of the leading solar, wind, storage, demand, and distributed energy companies, welcomes components of the SPEED Act. But United was discouraged by 11th hour changes to the bill and cautions lawmakers that additional work is needed to ensure permitting legislation restores essential stability to the federal process and unlocks energy development across the country.

New Options for Co-Location and Flexible Large Load Interconnections Could Enable More Development and Grid Reliability
WASHINGTON, DC – As large energy load users, including data centers, seek faster connection to the power grid of PJM Interconnection, co-locating with power plants or committing to flexible operations are promising compromises. Today, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a new order that has the potential to create much-welcome regulatory certainty for large load customers as well as some safeguards to ensure that co-location won’t negatively impact the electric rates and system reliability of all other customers.

The appointments come as Indiana desperately needs more energy production to meet demand
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Today,
Governor Mike Braun announced the appointments of Chair Andy Zay, Anthony Swinger, and Bob Deig to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Advanced Energy United congratulates the new commissioners and looks forward to engaging with them in important Commission dockets on behalf of the advanced energy industry.
“We appreciate these commissioners’ experience addressing reliability, affordability, efficiency, and other important energy issues. With the appointment of these commissioners, the IURC can help Indiana keep energy costs down by establishing better processes and plans to produce more energy here at home. Demand growth is an economic opportunity to create jobs and grow the economy – if we proactively plan,” said
