Advanced Energy United Congratulates Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Appointees

Posted by Alissa Rivera on Dec 12, 2025

The appointments come as Indiana desperately needs more energy production to meet demand

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Today, Governor Mike Braun announced the appointments of Chair Andy Zay, Anthony Swinger, and Bob Deig to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Advanced Energy United congratulates the new commissioners and looks forward to engaging with them in important Commission dockets on behalf of the advanced energy industry.

“We appreciate these commissioners’ experience addressing reliability, affordability, efficiency, and other important energy issues. With the appointment of these commissioners, the IURC can help Indiana keep energy costs down by establishing better processes and plans to produce more energy here at home. Demand growth is an economic opportunity to create jobs and grow the economy – if we proactively plan,” said Trish Demeter, Managing Director for Advanced Energy United

With these appointments, the IURC is now at full capacity with five commissioners. This comes as Indiana desperately needs more energy production to meet increasing energy demand.

Governor Braun has emphasized the need for more reliable and affordable utility services, which the commission can tackle by:
  • Establishing best practices on the utilization of demand-side management (DSM) programs to maximize potential cost savings for homeowners, renters, small businesses and large energy customers alike.
  • Allowing households and businesses to leverage behind-the-meter (BTM) resources by removing restrictions for customer adoption of distributed energy resources (DERs) that can improve grid efficiency and reliability because DERs are able to respond during periods of high peak load.
  • Ensuring that cost-saving advanced energy technologies are being utilized in utility resource plans and rate cases.

“With smart policy, the IURC can follow through on Governor Braun’s call for more Indiana-produced energy with the goal of protecting consumers from further rising costs,” Demeter said.
