Governor Sisolak’s announcement that Nevada is joining the multi-state MOU puts Nevada on the fast track to transportation electrification and the economic benefits that come with it.  

CARSON CITY, March 31, 2022—Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) applauded Governor Sisolak’s announcement that Nevada will join a multi-state effort to accelerate the market for electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between 16 states and the District of Columbia aims to develop an Action Plan to increase the percentage of new electric truck and bus vehicle sales. 

“The governor’s decision to join 16 other states and DC in their commitment to cleaner trucks, buses, and vans puts the state on the fast track to electrification,” said Sarah Steinberg, Principal at Advanced Energy Economy. “The emerging electric vehicle industry is already creating significant economic growth for the state, including new jobs, private investment, and consumer savings for households and businesses. Each state dollar invested in these vehicles is expected to generate three times that in complementary private investment. Nevada’s commitment to electrifying medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is the next step toward unlocking even more of those benefits.” 

AEE’s analysis found that each dollar invested in zero-emission vehicles has the potential to grow state GDP fivefold. It also found that when it comes to direct benefits for vehicle owners, electric trucks and buses can save $10,000 over the vehicle’s lifespan in lower operation and maintenance costs.  

“AEE is excited for Nevada to collaborate with other states as they innovate on best practices for medium- and heavy- duty electrification, and we applaud Governor Sisolak for his national leadership,” continued Steinberg. “Substantial investment in charging infrastructure and the recently adopted Clean Cars program that expands consumer choice for EVs have already established Nevada as one of the best states to drive electric. Today’s announcement means those benefits will soon extend to more Nevada businesses.”
