California Legislature’s Budget to Accelerate Economic Recovery and Clean Transportation

Posted by Cayli Baker on Jun 29, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO, June 29, 2021 – Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) applauded the California legislature’s approval of advanced energy and clean transportation investment in its votes on the proposed budget for the state. This “budget bill junior” provides much-needed funding for critical programs that have accelerated California’s leadership in EV policy, including $525 million for the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program, $150 million for equity transportation programs, $124 million for in-state ZEV manufacturing grants and over $500 million for zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure.

"California’s historic budget secures critical funding for advanced energy investments and clean transport programs that will benefit all Californians. This budget will put dollars to work in local communities to create new manufacturing jobs and opportunities across the state,” said Amisha Rai, managing director at Advanced Energy Economy.

“The Legislature’s vote yesterday will also accelerate a strong economic recovery for the state and put Californians back to work,” continued Rai. “The $3.9 billion multi-year funding package approved by the legislature will accelerate the state’s zero emission vehicle adoption and the critical infrastructure development needed to create new jobs, spur manufacturing and supply chain development, and reduce electricity costs to ratepayers for years to come. The budget also expands access to clean transportation in every region of the state, an industry that accounted for $4.5 billion in Gross State Product in 2019."

“AEE commends Senators Toni Atkins and Nancy Skinner and Assemblymembers Anthony Rendon and Phil Ting for their leadership on accelerating California’s clean energy and transportation investments through this budget vehicle.”
