After the April 14 release of Secretary of Energy Rick Perry’s memo for his staff to conduct a 60-day study on the negative effects of renewable energy on the coal industry and the nation’s economy, four advanced energy, including AEE, submitted a letter to the Secretary. In their transmittal letter, Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), and Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) expressed “disappointment” that they had received no response to their call for an open, transparent process with stakeholder input to inform the 60-day study by the Department of Energy (DOE), which Perry called for in an April 14 memo. On March 7, AEE released Advanced Energy Now 2017 Market Report. The latest industry data shows advanced energy is a $200 billion industry in the United States and $1.4 trillion worldwide. To put this in perspective, U.S. advanced energy revenue for 2016 is nearly double beer sales, equal to domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing, and approaching wholesale consumer electronics. Ohio Veto Coverage Round-Up

On December 27, Governor Kasich vetoed Ohio's Substitute House Bill 554. The bill would have further weakened the state’s energy standards by turning the requirement for utilities to purchase renewable energy and invest in energy efficiency into voluntary goals, with no compliance obligations, through 2019. With Governor Kasich’s veto, the standards frozen two years ago are set to be reinstated on January 1, 2017.
