New cost allocation methodology for standby and buyback service rates would benefit DERs like energy storage, electric vehicles, and demand management.

Washington, D.C. – March 28, 2022 – The New York Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an Order adopting a new cost allocation methodology for standby and buyback service rates that will improve the value proposition of distributed energy resources. The long-awaited Order,* issued on March 16, referenced comments submitted by Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) multiple times and accepted many of AEE’s recommendations.

According to the Advanced Energy Now 2019 Market Reportadvanced transportation was the largest advanced energy segment worldwide in 2018 for the second year in a row, with an estimated US$494.8 billion in revenue, up 2% from 2017 and 8% the year before. Since 2011, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of advanced transportation globally was 6%. At the end of 2018, over five million plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) were on the roads worldwide.

Business group applauds Gov. Northam for issuing Executive Order for the Commonwealth to reach 100% clean energy sources by 2050

RICHMOND, September 17, 2019 — Today, business group Virginia Advanced Energy Economy (Virginia AEE) reacted to Governor Northam's Executive Order calling for the Commonwealth to use 100% clean energy to meet its electric power needs by 2050. The Governor's plan includes more immediate goals focused on the deployment of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and battery storage over the next decade.

According to the Advanced Energy Now 2019 Market Reportthe market for electricity delivery and management, which includes advanced transmission and distribution products and services, recorded the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the period 2011 to 2018 worldwide (18%). In the United States, CAGR was a healthy 11% over that time. The year 2017 was one of the biggest for electricity delivery and management, recording 28% growth globally and 14% in the United States. While the market plateaued somewhat in 2018, with global growth at 6% and a slight decline in U.S. revenue, electricity delivery and management products will continue to receive significant investment in the coming decade.

According to the Advanced Energy Now 2019 Market Report, advanced electricity generation is now the second largest advanced energy segment globally, having been displaced as the biggest by advanced transportation in 2017. At US$453 billion, advanced electricity generation was down slightly in 2018. Global revenue has been largely flat for the past two years, dropping roughly US$1 billion each year since 2016, but the total masks significant growth in solar and hydropower in 2017, nuclear power in 2018, and wind in both years.

Advanced Energy Gains 125,000 Jobs in 2018, Growing Twice as Fast as U.S. Employment Overall

With 3.5 million jobs, advanced energy industry employs more U.S. workers than retail stores, twice as many as hotels and motels, three times coal and oil industries

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 20, 2019 – Today national business group Advanced Energy Economy released a fact sheet showing that the advanced energy industry employed 3.5 million U.S. workers in 2018, an increase of 125,000 jobs over 2017. Advanced energy employment grew 4 percent year-over-year, more than twice as fast as the overall U.S. employment growth rate of 1.5 percent. Employers expect to add 6 percent more advanced energy jobs in the coming year.
