STATEMENTS FROM ADVANCED ENERGY ECONOMY AND MEMBER COMPANIES IN OPPOSITION TO H 332, NOW BEFORE THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE SENATE

Posted by Industry News on May 26, 2015

“North Carolina’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS) has saved money for consumers and made North Carolina a national leader in solar energy development,” said Graham Richard, CEO of Advanced Energy Economy, a national business association representing a wide range of energy technologies that are secure, clean, and affordable. “This is no time to pull the plug on energy efficiency and renewable energy in North Carolina. AEE stands with its member companies that have invested in this state, and with our state partner, the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, in opposing this job-killing bill. ”

“H332 is unfair to the entire ecosystem of local businesses who supply solar in NC. This bill threatens many of the 23,000 jobs and the $4.8 billion in annual revenue that have been created in NC thanks to the REPS,” said Melanie Santiago-Mosier, Director of Government Affairs, SunEdison. “It would disqualify many solar projects from longstanding benefits that make clean, renewable energy valuable for owners, on grounds that are arbitrary and capricious. Changing the rules of the road like this is anti-business and anti-consumer.”

“North Carolinians have expressed a clear desire for a clean energy future,” said Will Craven, Director of Public Affairs at SolarCity. “A vote for this bill is essentially a vote against the interests of North Carolina residents who want to enjoy cleaner energy.”

“The REPS has saved North Carolina rate payers $162 million since it was adopted and is on track to save them nearly $500 million by 2029,” said Maria Kingery, Co-Founder and CEO of Southern Energy Management. “And just as important, this policy has created jobs and investment while fostering more competitive energy options for our state.”
