PRESS would increase Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (AEPS) to 35% by 2035 while RESET would modernize and streamline energy siting to meet skyrocketing electricity demand.
HARRISBURG, PA – As part of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s Lightning Plan, Pennsylvania is moving forward on the clean energy future with the introduction of the Reliable Energy Siting and Electric Transition Board (RESET) and reintroduction of the Pennsylvania Renewable Energy Standards and Sustainability (PRESS) Act, two game-changing bills that will supercharge the state’s economy, lower costs, and put Pennsylvania on the map as a leader in clean energy.
“PRESS and RESET are exactly what Pennsylvania needs right now. RESET cuts bureaucratic red tape to accelerate energy project development, while PRESS strengthens market signals to boost Pennsylvania’s growing clean energy sector. Together, they attract investment, create jobs, and lower costs for consumers,” said Chris D'Agostino, Pennsylvania Policy Lead at Advanced Energy United.
RESET (H.B. 502) creates a clear, state-level process to speed up energy projects and make sure enough power meets growing energy demand, while PRESS (H.B. 501) increases Pennsylvania’s clean energy portfolio standards, ensuring the state taps into its vast clean energy potential, from solar and wind to cutting-edge energy storage solutions. By modernizing energy policies, Pennsylvania can move away from outdated, expensive power sources and embrace energy generation that makes the grid more reliable and makes utility bills more affordable.
“These policies, along with the Lightning Plan, are about making sure Pennsylvania isn’t left behind while other states cash in on the clean energy boom,” added D'Agostino. “With PRESS and RESET, we’re making moves that benefit workers, businesses, and communities across the state.”
