Indy Politics: Here Comes the Sun

Posted by Abdul Hakim-Shabazz on Mar 24, 2025

United's Trish Demeter spoke with Indy Politics about a report commissioned by United that demonstrated how expanded solar power generation in Indiana could bring hundreds of millions in tax revenue, create new jobs, and increase energy independence across the state.

Solar energy advocates say solar power could not only help mitigate the impact of fossil fuels but also help lower property taxes.

Trish Demeter, Managing Director with Advanced Energy United, a trade association for clean energy businesses tells Indy Politics there is nearly $610 million in annual economic output in the state’s solar power economic development pipeline that could also generate more property taxes across Indiana.

Demeter says these projects would place downward pressure on property tax rates and, depending upon location, could result in an estimated reduction in median homeowner property tax liability of 10-23 percent.
