The advanced energy economy, which covers everything from solar power to electric vehicles, surged to $200 billion in the United States last year and $1.4 trillion globally, said a new report from Navigant Research and the business coalition Advanced Energy Economy.

The growth put the overall revenue of the U.S. clean and high-tech energy sector on par with pharmaceuticals and at double that of the beer industry, the analysis found.
