AEE and CEP Hail Passage of RPS Increase by Nevada Assembly’s Commerce and Labor Committee
The bill, AB206, would increase the Silver State’s renewable portfolio standard to 50% by 2030, up from 25% by 2025, creating a $5B market opportunity, business groups say
Carson City, Nev., May 17, 2017— Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy and its state partner, Clean Energy Project, released the following statement regarding Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee’s passage of AB206, a bill that would increase the state’s RPS to 50 percent by 2030.
“Nevada’s doubling down on advanced energy with policies like AB206 sends a clear signal to companies that Nevada is open for business,” said J.R. Tolbert, Vice President of State Policy for Advanced Energy Economy (AEE). “We applaud Assemblyman Brooks for working with all stakeholders in an open and transparent process to pass AB206 out of committee and encourage the full Assembly and Senate to act quickly and favorably on this important bill for continued advanced energy growth in Nevada.”
“An RPS increase to 50% by 2030 is the clearest signal to developers and investors that Nevada wants to do business and grow its advanced energy economy,” said Will Mitchell, Director of Government Affairs with Recurrent Energy. “As private capital flows into the state and clean, innovative technologies scale, all Nevadans will benefit."
“Nevada has been blessed with an abundance of natural resources. AB206 would expand market opportunities that drive investments and job opportunities in renewable energy technologies,” said Jennifer Taylor, Executive Director of the Clean Energy Project (CEP). “Policy mechanisms like the RPS help meet Governor Sandoval's strategic vision to make Nevada the leading producer and consumer of renewable energy and mirror the core values of the companies we want to attract to the Silver State."
“AB206 would re-establish Nevada's leadership on advanced energy, diversify the state’s energy portfolio, create grid reliability and accelerate adoption of renewable energy technologies that serve as a driver of economic growth and prosperity in the Silver state,” added Taylor.
“AB206 brings Nevada one step closer to reaping the full benefits of the advance energy industry – an industry that has been and will continue to be an economic powerhouse for the state of Nevada — with this bill having the potential to create an additional $5 billion market opportunity,” said Tolbert.
