Statement on Maury Galbraith’s Appointment as Executive Director at Colorado Electric Transmission Authority (CETA)

Posted by Calista Thompson on Mar 21, 2023

DENVER, March 21, 2023 – Today, national business group Advanced Energy United (formerly Advanced Energy Economy) applauded the selection of Maury Galbraith as Executive Director of the Colorado Electric Transmission Authority (“CETA”).

“We’re delighted to see Maury Galbraith take on this important leadership role at CETA,” said Emilie Olson, Senior Principal at Advanced Energy United. “Maury brings a strong track record of Western interstate cooperation to CETA and will, in this same vein, ensure Colorado is well positioned to capitalize on the benefits of clean energy growth and resource sharing across the region as we are filling infrastructure gaps here in the state.  With a new Executive Director at the helm, a fully-staffed CETA can get to work bringing the economic and grid reliability benefits of a modernized, regionally connected transmission system to fruition for the state.”
In 2021, Advanced Energy United supported Senate Bill 21-072 to establish CETA as an independent, streamlined entity equipped to simplify Colorado’s electric transmission planning process. This legislation empowers CETA to accelerate the expansion of critical transmission lines through low-cost finance, more efficient siting practices, and public-private partnerships. Additionally, it authorizes CETA to work with entities, both within and outside of the state, to improve Coloradans’ access to affordable and reliable clean electricity and lay the supportive groundwork for utilities’ future participation in a West-wide Regional Transmission Organization (“RTO”).

“CETA has a vital role to play in enabling timely transmission investments that will provide economic diversification and added local revenue for communities by putting new steel in the ground and unlocking the ability to develop low-cost clean generation projects in more parts of the state rich in renewable energy and storage potential,” said Olson. “Additionally, CETA leadership has an exciting opportunity over the next few years to steward federal funding from the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make important headway on much-needed infrastructure upgrades and construction.

Advanced Energy United looks forward to working with Maury and the full CETA Board to realize the substantial benefits of regionally connected, resilient energy infrastructure for all Coloradans.”
