WASHINGTON, DC, April 20, 2023 – National business association Advanced Energy United today called on members of Congress to reject efforts to undo portion of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act and instead work together on advancing legislation that will help America transition to electricity and transportation systems powered by 100% clean energy. In response to a newly proposed House of Representatives bill that would scrap portions of the Inflation Reduction Act, Harry Godfrey, Managing Director at Advanced Energy United, released the following statement:
“The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) isn’t yet a year old and has already spurred $65 billion in investment in U.S. manufacturing, creating over 55,000 U.S. jobs in the process. The IRA is also accelerating the transition to clean energy - over $150 billion in clean energy projects have been announced in just the past eight months - moving America away from volatile fossil fuel prices, combating inflation, and saving consumers an estimated $4.4 billion. These gains bolster the American economy, growing the tax base we need to address the U.S. debt. Rolling back the IRA now would undercut long term efforts to improve America's fiscal health. We would urge Congressional lawmakers to pass a clean debt-limit increase and refocus on forging bipartisan, bicameral legislation that reforms permitting for critical mineral production, transmission, and advanced energy projects, further expanding our economy and strengthening U.S. energy independence."
