Advanced Energy United and Institute Announce New CEO

Posted by Calista Thompson on Feb 16, 2023

CEO Nat Kreamer transitions to sustainability investing; Advanced Energy United President Heather O’Neill promoted to CEO.

WASHINGTON, DC, February 15, 2023 – After four and a half years leading the Advanced Energy United organizations to achieve historic political wins and record financial growth, CEO Nat Kreamer is transitioning to a new role as Executive Chairman of AMP Robotics with additional leadership roles in his investments at Fairtide, HDM Renewable Finance, and Highland Electric Fleets. Kreamer will remain a member of the Advanced Energy Institute board. Current President Heather O’Neill will become CEO and President of the organizations with the full support of their boards.

“Nat turned Advanced Energy into a leading educator and advocate for the energy transition,” said Matt Rogers, Advanced Energy Institute Board Chair, CEO of Mill and Nest Labs co-founder. “We wish him well as he continues to transform markets and build sustainability companies.”

During Kreamer’s tenure, the Advanced Energy organizations won significant policy objectives, including the passage of the Virginia Clean Economy Act, the advancement of a Western Regional Grid, securing FERC Order 2222, winning billions for electric vehicles and charging at the state and federal level, and creating the direct pay, transferability, and domestic manufacturing tax incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act. Additionally, Kreamer led the organization to become one of the three financially largest business advocates in the clean energy industry by doubling Advanced Energy United’s revenue and increasing its unrestricted net assets fivefold.

“Heather and I worked as close partners to achieve this winning track record,” said Kreamer. “She will continue Advanced Energy United’s streak of policy wins and financial growth.”

Over her eleven years with Advanced Energy United, O’Neill has served as the President, Interim CEO, and SVP of Strategic Partnerships. Before joining the organization O’Neill established and led clean energy and environmental philanthropy for the Robertson Foundation. Heather has spent her career helping build and grow mission-driven organizations. She is a graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

“Heather’s deep organizational leadership capabilities as well as broad experience in advocacy and philanthropy are what we need for our second decade of impact and growth,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Advanced Energy United board chair and EVP and Head of Strategy for Landis+Gyr.

“It’s an opportune time for our industry, and I’m excited to lead Advanced Energy United as we continue to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy in the U.S.,” said O’Neill, “We secured big wins at the federal level that require meaningful engagement in the states to unlock all the benefits of the clean energy transition. The energy sector faces significant challenges, including grid resilience and reliability in the face of more extreme weather, and the siting and improvement of transmission infrastructure. Advanced Energy United is ready with solutions to these challenges.”
