Our energy system is going through a period of transformational change. Evolving consumer preferences, dynamic new technologies and services, and the need to replace aging infrastructure are creating new opportunities for states across the country to modernize the energy sector.

The $200 billion national advanced energy market is already benefiting Nevada’s economy. In 2018, the clean energy industry supported more than 25,000 jobs across the state in sectors such as solar, geothermal and energy efficiency.

Customer Renewable Energy Options in Virginia

In Virginia, several voluntary renewable energy tariffs have been introduced by the state’s two largest investor-owned utilities, Dominion Energy and Appalachian Power Co. Customers also have the option to purchase renewable energy from competitive service providers, with certain restrictions.

The challenge is: are current options sufficient to meet the growing demands of Virginia’s diverse businesses that want renewable energy to power their operations?

AEE Comments to DOE on Sec. 202c Request for Emergency Support of Certain Power Plants

AEE submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) asking DOE to reject FirstEnergy Solutions’ March 29 request for an order under Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act.

The request from an owner of power plants operating in competitive wholesale electricity markets is for emergency financial support for a wide range of coal and nuclear plants across the PJM Interconnection (PJM) region, which stretches from Maryland to parts of Ohio.

Comments: Carbon Mitigation and Advanced Energy in Virginia

In its filed comments, Virginia Advanced Energy Economy supported the Va. Dept. of Environmental Quality's proposed regulations to implement a carbon trading system to reduce emissions to meet  Governor McAuliffe's Executive Directive 11, highlighting positive economic impact, including significant in-state investment (up to $4.6 billion) and adding 30,000 to 40,000 jobs.
