The state’s pending budget shortfall could jeopardize its 100% clean power and zero-emission vehicle targets.
SACRAMENTO, January 10, 2023 – Today, national business group Advanced Energy United (formerly Advanced Energy Economy) responded to California’s impending $24 billion deficit. The organization released the following statement from Principal Emilie Olson in advance of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s budget release:
“A budget shortfall makes it harder to balance our priorities, but it’d be a mistake for California lawmakers to delay implementation of the clean energy and transportation programs we already rely on. Localized clean energy solutions, resilient infrastructure, and incentives that help energy customers ease strain on the power grid, among much more are already helping California combat dangerous heat waves and the high energy costs that come with them. We need to continue investing in a clean, affordable power grid and an electrified transportation system if we want Californians to stay safe and comfortable during all months of the year.
“The state is in a different position than it was last year, but Californians will pay more in the long run if our leaders waver on existing clean energy and transportation programs. Advanced Energy United looks forward to working with Gov. Newsom and the legislature to keep these ambitious initiatives intact and honor the funding commitments that will allow Californians to reap economic, environmental, and public benefits for years to come.”
