Newsom’s proposed budget promises historic investments in clean transportation and clean energy, boosting the state’s efforts to get to a 100% clean energy and transportation system.
SACRAMENTO, January 10, 2022 — Today, national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) commended Governor Newsom for proposing over $6 billion in clean transportation and $2 billion in clean energy investments in today’s budget release. An investment of this scale will encourage additional zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) and advanced energy development in the state and put dollars to work in local communities to create new jobs and opportunities.
“Investment in zero-emission transportation is critical for Californian’s health and economic well-being. The state has an array of strong clean transport efforts underway, including equity transportation programs, in-state ZEV manufacturing grants, and rebates, to support the transition to a zero-emission transportation future. This significant, additional investment will expand the state’s efforts to accelerate ZEV adoption, support electric vehicle infrastructure buildout, and spur clean, innovative economic growth in every part of the state,” said Amisha Rai, Managing Director at Advanced Energy Economy. “We are also encouraged to see the Governor’s focus on clean energy investments and look forward to working with the Legislature on making sure these proposed dollars are going to efforts that expand clean energy benefits in local communities, enhance reliability to the entire system, and accelerate the state’s path to 100% clean energy.”
“With more than 40,000 Californians at work in the state’s EV industry, and over 500,000 in the state’s advanced energy industry, communities across the state are already experiencing the economic benefits tied to advanced energy,” continued Rai. “Reliable funding streams and strong state incentives are essential for growing this booming workforce in all areas of the state.”
“AEE applauds Governor Newsom for doubling down on the state’s nation-leading clean energy investments, and we look forward to working with the Governor’s Office and state legislature to ensure California has a strong, equitable implementation plan in place to best accelerate progress toward an economy built on 100% advanced energy.”
