[Washington, D.C. – February 26, 2016] – Advanced Energy Economy released the following statement in expectation of Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s veto of Senate Bill 21, which would require legislative approval of the state’s plan for Clean Power Plan compliance before submittal to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

“We encourage Gov. McAuliffe to veto Senate Bill 21 to safeguard the state’s ability to develop a tailored compliance plan to meet its obligations under the Clean Air Act,” said Malcolm Woolf, Senior Vice President of Policy for Advanced Energy Economy, a national business association. “Given the complexity of our electricity system, the development of a compliance plan is best left to the technical experts at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality without further politicization. We are confident that DEQ, working with a diverse group of stakeholders, will develop a compliance plan that delivers solutions at low cost while also driving much-needed investment and innovation in the electricity sector.”
