A Statement from Advanced Energy Economy and the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance Supporting Patrick McDonnell’s nomination as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection

Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (KEEA) and Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) support the nomination of Patrick McDonnell as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Acting Secretary McDonnell has a proven track record of service to the state of Pennsylvania and extensive experience managing Pennsylvania’s energy, water, and environmental needs.

“KEEA and AEE have been actively engaged in Pennsylvania on a myriad of energy policy issues, and through this work we have had the pleasure of working with Acting Secretary McDonnell,” said Matt Elliott, Executive Director of the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance. “KEEA and AEE can confidently attest to McDonnell’s knowledge of both the challenges and opportunities facing Pennsylvania’s energy future,” Elliott added.

“We applaud Governor Wolf’s commitment to advanced energy and appreciate his appointment of Patrick McDonnell to lead the Pennsylvania DEP,” said Graham Richard, CEO of Advanced Energy Economy. “As that agency moves forward with developing a compliance plan under the Clean Power Plan, we look forward to working with the Secretary to ensure that he has a full understanding of the advanced energy technologies and services that will enable the state to achieve its emission reduction targets at least cost, and with the greatest system-wide benefits,” added Richard.

Acting Secretary McDonnell’s experience at the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the State Energy Office has provided him with a deep knowledge of Pennsylvania’s energy system that will serve him well as he leads the state through the compliance planning process.

AEE and KEEA therefore endorse Patrick McDonnell’s nomination as the next Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
