Minnesota generates a value-of-solar formula for customers

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission voted 3-2 to use a value-of-solar formula when charging customers with distributed generation. This makes Minnesota the first state to develop a formula for calculating the value of customer-generated solar power. It also gives investor-owned utilities the option of using the tariff instead of the retail electricity rate when crediting customers for excess electricity generated from solar panels.
