California Legislature Passes Common-Sense Surplus Interconnection Bill

Surplus Interconnection Bill (AB 1408) passed the California legislature and now awaits the Governor’s signature

SACRAMENTO, CA—As the California legislative session comes to a close, lawmakers have taken a step to tackle the state’s rising energy affordability crisis with the passage of a common-sense energy affordability bill that aims to improve reliability, lower costs, and build a cleaner, more resilient energy system for communities across the state.

Assembly Bill (AB) 1408 is legislation to streamline surplus interconnection, which will allow new solar, wind, and energy storage resources to connect to the grid infrastructure in places already served by existing energy infrastructure.

“This bill will help accelerate clean energy deployment and help us better take advantage of soon-expiring tax credits, further maximizing the use of our existing grid and supporting reliability and affordability for ratepayers,” said Edson Perez, California lead at Advanced Energy United.

Advanced Energy United urges Governor Newsom to sign AB 1408 into law to enable a more flexible, resilient, and affordable energy future.
