AEE REACTION TO CLEAN POWER PLAN ORAL ARGUMENTS
[Washington, D.C., September 27, 2016] — Today, the case against EPA’s Clean Power Plan was heard by the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. As national business group Advanced Energy Economy was an intervenor in the case, AEE's Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs Malcolm Woolf was there to hear oral arguments for and against. He had this reaction:
“Today’s oral arguments will help federal policy catch up to the market.
“The Clean Power Plan is consistent with the direction that the market is already taking the U.S. electric power system. Because of that, states like North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Dakota have already met their early targets and others like Arkansas have achieved their final 2030 requirement. Despite the stay while the case makes its way through the courts, nearly half the states are preparing to meet their EPA goals because it is needed for utility planning.
“The Clean Power Plan will only accelerate changes in the electric power system already under way, and provide market certainty for the growth of advanced energy products and services. In the end, the Clean Power Plan’s goals will be neither costly nor difficult to achieve.”
