Britain's power generation capacity is aging, and the country expects to have to replace or update its nine aging nuclear plants over the next decade. One first step along that process is a new nuclear power plant, just approved for Hinkley Point in southwest England. The New York Times reports:
“Given the fact that the U.K. is faced with the mammoth challenge of having to replace 40 percent of old power stations by 2025 and that nuclear power is the single most scalable way of achieving this target, EDF is indeed in a strong position to win this battle,” Claudia Belahmidi, an analyst at the research firm IHS Global Insight, wrote in a note.
