Washington, D.C., August 3, 2017 — Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Neil Chatterjee and Rob Powelson as commissioners of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
In a statement issued May 24, AEE declared its support for Chatterjee’s nomination. AEE also has a long-standing relationship with Powelson, in his roles as commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, but he has not met with AEE as nominee, which would be necessary for a formal endorsement.
Following today’s Senate confirmation, AEE’s VP of Federal Affairs, Arvin Ganesan, released the statement below:
“Advanced Energy Economy welcomes the confirmation of Neil Chatterjee and Rob Powelson to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. AEE is committed to an energy system that encourages innovation and allows all technologies to compete fairly in wholesale markets while also respecting the right of states to set policy goals of their own. We believe that market rules should not lock in old technologies at the expense of newer ones that can do more for less. With a quorum restored at FERC and two more nominations pending, we look forward to working with the commissioners to remove all barriers to advanced energy technologies competing in wholesale electricity markets.”
