[Washington, D.C. -- Jan. 25, 2016] -- Today, Advanced Energy Economy issued the following statement reacting to the Supreme Court's ruling on FERC jurisdiction regarding demand response in energy markets, upholding FERC Order 745:
“Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court affirming the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s authority to set rules for demand response in energy markets is to be applauded,” said Malcolm Woolf, Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs for Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), a national business organization. “Under FERC’s rules, demand response has matured into a major industry that helps keep the lights on during critical events such as the polar vortex and saves consumers billions of dollars annually. Today, the high court confirmed FERC’s authority over this important tool for reducing energy bills and enhancing grid reliability for American businesses and consumers alike. In its majority opinion, the court says the Federal Power Act 'should not be read, against its clear terms, to halt a practice that so evidently enables FERC to fulfill its statutory duties of holding down prices and enhancing reliability in the wholesale energy market.' We could not agree more.”
