Washington, D.C., March 28, 2017 – Today, national business association Advanced Energy Economy released these comments from Malcolm Woolf, senior vice president of policy and government affairs, ahead of the expected signing of President Trump's Energy Independence Executive Order:
“The energy independence executive order signed today goes against the basic principles of market competition by hand picking the fuel sources the Trump administration wants to win.
“In contrast, when all domestic energy resources get to compete on price and performance, this is what we see: coal use supplanted by natural gas; wind and solar power purchased by utilities on the basis of price and corporate buyers for meeting their sustainability goals; and energy efficiency as the cheapest energy resource for all customers. These are all advanced energy, which is today a $200 billion market in the U.S., as big as pharmaceutical manufacturing, and employing more than 3 million workers, more than those in retail stores across the country. We urge the Trump administration to ensure that advanced energy technologies and services have the chance to compete and help the U.S. achieve energy independence.”
