AEE, AEE Institute Announce New CEO

Business Leader Nat Kreamer Named CEO of Advanced Energy Economy and AEE Institute


WASHINGTON, D.C., November 8, 2018 — Today, the boards of directors of national business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) and the Advanced Energy Economy Institute (AEE Institute) announced the appointment of Nat Kreamer as chief executive officer.

In their announcement to members, partners and supporters, AEE board chair Hemant Taneja, managing director of General Catalyst Partners, and AEE Institute board chair Matt Rogers, co-founder and chief product officer, Nest Labs, highlighted Kreamer’s experience as an advanced energy business and industry leader, investor, and educator.

Kreamer brings more than a decade of advanced energy business and industry leadership experience to AEE. At Fairtide Renew he personally invests in helping traditional industries adopt new technologies, which includes electric utilities transitioning to advanced energy solutions and transforming their business models to become 21st Century ones.

He previously held executive roles as president and CEO of Spruce Finance and its predecessor Clean Power Finance; as co-founder, president, and COO of rooftop solar company SunRun (NASDAQ: RUN); and as president and member of the board of directors of Acro Energy Technologies (TSX: ART). He created the Chicago Climate Exchange market-making business for Pioneer Futures (Virtu Financial) and worked in power industry financial consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He also served as vice chair and chairman of the board of the Solar Energy Industries Association.

Kreamer is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, where he served in the Special Forces and was awarded the Bronze Star. President Obama selected him as a Champion of Change for his work as a veteran in clean energy. Kreamer earned a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a Masters of Business Administration from Rice University.

Additionally, Senior Vice President and Interim CEO Heather O’Neill was named to the post of president. O’Neill has worked at AEE for nearly seven years, serving as interim CEO since January, while also managing her duties leading strategic partnerships. She came to AEE with 14 years of multi-sector experience, having helped build organizations in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors in her career. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and her Master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
